Hydra-Electric Announces New Electronic Temperature Switch at Farnborough International Airshow Addressing Common Failure Issues with Mechanical Switches

New switch provides for greater accuracy and repeatability, even in high vibration environments.

Burbank, CA – July 12, 2016 — Hydra-Electric Company, a provider of breakthrough technology in sensors and switches for the aerospace industry, announced that it will be introducing a new electronic temperature switch. The Company will showcase this and other solutions at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow, where it is exhibiting in Hall 4, Stand E-61.

This new patent-pending design provides for greater accuracy and reliability, and allows customers to select any setpoint with high accuracy, plus or minus two degrees. Other features include the option of adjustable or selectable hysteresis, settable trip

temperatures, and the ability to provide a window indication – either within a set temperature range or outside that range.

With existing technology, mechanical switches will fail after a certain number of cycles, especially in high vibration environments. By contrast, Hydra-Electric’s new design uses electronic circuitry that extends the life by a factor of greater than ten times (as measured in cycles or time).

“The circuit senses mechanical switch closure to make it look like a constant impedance maintained 10 or even 20 times longer,” said Bob Guziak, Director of Sensor Engineering at Hydra-Electric. “This design addresses the number one complaint we hear from our customers about the short life of mechanical switches, especially in high vibration environments.”

“This product is being shipped now for use in engine systems subject to very high vibration levels,” remarked Tim Burmood, Director of Sales. “In addition, it offers applicability to systems across the aircraft, and can enhance any of our standard Hydra-Electric pressure switches.”

About Hydra-Electric

Hydra-Electric is a trusted provider of breakthrough technology in sensors and switches in the aerospace industry. Its proven solutions include: pressure, temperature and multi-function sensors; and pressure, temperature and liquid flow switches. Hydra’s high performance sensing technologies are able to address problems which were previously thought to be unsolvable, including: pressure-spike damage, pump ripple, high-speed impulses, burst diaphragms, and broken wire bonds to name a few.

The Company has been an innovator in the aerospace industry since 1948 when it introduced the Negative Rate Disc Spring design that remains the global standard today for aerospace pressure switches. Hydra-Electric’s products are found in demanding military and commercial applications, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft, missiles, space launch platforms, ships and submarines, armored vehicles and UCAVs.
